The ingot mold is prepared by coating with a thin coat of houshold oil.
Once spread evenly, the the excess oil is wipe away and the ingot mold assembled to the diameter of choice. For this one will be set to approximately 3.5mm.
A 3.5mm bar that's 2" long will require approximately 7dwts or 10.8 grams of gold. For this demonstration, Mike used approximately 20% more gold to show the importance of the 'button' at the end of the pour.
The mold is heated until a light amount of smoke is produced by the oil.
