Drawing tongs grip the wire as it's leaves the rollers. Roll wire until it fits the largest hole in your drawplate.
Tapering the wire can be done with a file, on the Power Hone w/260 grit diamond wheel, or rolled between two steel plates. Prior to drawing, the wire is lubricated with beeswax or a beeswax based lubricant. The wire developes heat as it's drawn, and this evenly disperses the wax coating.
Here the tapered end is placed in the drawplate and is ready to be pulled. Draw wire two or three sizes down then anneal.
The drawplate is mounted securely in a bench vise. If the wire feels tight or has too much drag, then you have insufficient lubricant or the wire needs annealing.
